We had great success last year with our summer reading, and we are doing it again. This time we are also adding math - we want students to practice math on the IXL website - https://www.ixl.com/signin/mm. Students who do not have access to  the website can practice with flashcards.

All students will be given a calendar, and we want them to read  for 20 minutes and practice math  for 20 minutes every day during the summer break, to help build their skills and prevent the dreaded "summer slide" also known as the Brain Drain.

We will have prizes, and games, for our students who participate, and our top readers/mathematicians, including the VERY POPULAR Hungry Hungry Humans game.

If we can get 70% of our calendars returned at the beginning of the school year, we will have Ms. Hamilton perform an Ice Bucket challenge!!!

Information will be going home soon.

The final Book Fair of the year will be held in the Library Monday June 4th through Friday June 8th, 2018. This is a BOGO (Buy One, Get One Free!) book fair and the kids are getting very excited. This is the one time that I tell students they can shop with a friend, and pool their money so they can each get a book. In addition, the PTA provides student rewards with free books.

We are encouraging summer reading, so we want students to pick up some great books to build their skills all summer long!

It's official - the Picture Book that won the CYRM for 2017-2018 is:

"The Book With No Pictures"

This was definitely a student favorite.

Next year's books are also sure to be a big hit:

It's hard to imagine, but we are now in the last month of library visits. 3rd-5th grade students are participating in activities to see how well they have learned some of the lessons taught this year, and I am planning ahead to end of year games to celebrate Literacy and Library skills.

Classes will continue to come to the Library through June 1st, but no books will be checked out (except to teachers) after May 29th, and all student books are due back to the Library no later than Friday, June 1st. Students who fail to return their library book may be subject to late fees.

Students have just finished voting for their favorite book in the California Young Reader Medal Awards. We will keep you posted as to which book will win! Although I think it's going to be an easy pick - just ask your child!

We had a fantastic Book Fair week, and I am so thrilled to let you know that as a result of this PTA event, we were able to donate almost $1,100 in books to classroom libraries and students, as well as selling over 1,400 books to students and families!

WOW!

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the Book Fair, by buying books for their children and also for the classroom libraries, and in particular a huge thank you to Erin Dimberg, Nadia Fisk, Victoria Aguirre, Shelah delaRosa and Melanie Parrish, who ensured that everything went smoothly.
